A brief about the 1st Doctoral Colloquium, 2008

Click to EnlargeThe colloquium was conducted on 3rd and 4th January, 2008 at the KLMDC.  The colloquium attracted eleven participants from outside institutes, including one international student from DukeUniversity, and twelve participants from with in IIMA; The colloquium also attracted eminent researchers in the field of management from abroad like Prof. Ajay Kohli(EmoryUniversity), Prof. Dipankar Chakravarti (University of Colorado, at Boulder), and Prof. Sushil Vachani (Boston University).  The colloquium was inaugurated by the Director of IIMA Prof. Samir K. Barua.

The colloquium was divided into two parts: one was workshops conducted by faculty of IIMA and international researchers, and the other was student presentations of their thesis related work.  The workshops were well received by the students, which was evident from their active participation during the sessions.  The colloquium started with a panel discussion on ‘Emerging Landscapes and Issues in Management Research’.  The panelists were Prof. Sushil Vachani, Prof. Dipankar Chakravarti, Prof. Diptesh Ghosh, and Prof. Arvind Sahay.  The workshops conducted were: Theory Construction (Prof. Ajay Kohli), Personal Perspectives and Research Clinic (Profs. Rajen Gupta and Ashok Pratap Arora), Shrinkage Estimation in Marketing Applications: Case of Retail Scanner Data Analysis (Prof. Arindam Banerjee), Structural Equation Modeling: A methodological perspective (Prof. Tathagata Bandopadhyay), and Paper Publishing (Prof. Dipankar Chakravarti).  The student presentations were divided into six parallel tracks, and faculty from IIMA adjudged these presentations for best track prizes.
